TEACH THEM TO OBEY
1. Lord Yeshua gave many commands but one of his explicit command is, “Teach them to obey all that I have commanded you.” Matt. 28:19
2. Your love for Him is conditional, “If you love me, you will obey my commandments” John 14:15,21,23
3. Father Adam lost the Garden of Eden and Prophet Jonah ended up in the fish’s belly, for disobedience.
4. Saul lost his kingship because he failed to obey. “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has also rejected you from being king.” 1Samuel 15:22-24
5. Abraham was blessed because he obeyed God’s voice, “I will bless you and multiply your seed.... and they shall possess the gates of the enemy, because you have obeyed my voice.” Genesis 22:17,18; Deut. 7:12-15
6. God promised Israel, “If you will obey my laws and the statutes, then you will be a special people, a chosen generation and a kingdom of priests.” Exodus 19:5,6
7. Teaching is to pass on information and insights. Coaching is to pass on skills. It is a. Tell them why; b. Show them how; c. Get them started; d. Keep them going; e. Follow up and f. Get them to pass it on. Acts 14:21-23; Phil. 4:9
8. Leaders are multi-taskers but coaches focus on imparting skills. No team can win a match without good coaches. Making them hearers only is wasteful but coaching them into diligent doers of the Word, requires a lot of practice.
9. Poor parenting, abstract sermons, histrionics on TV and Sunday schools teaching only songs and stories but no discipling skills, has produced 98% religious cripples who cannot witness even to their best friends.
10. Maturity in faith is not how much you know but the ability to convince, convict and convert those who contradict; “He must be able to teach sound doctrine and also to rebuke (refute) those who contradict.” Titus 1:9
11. Apostolic content, interactive methodology and strategic selection will equip saints “to make the Gentiles obedient by word and deed.” Content by itself does not, but its application that creates movement. Rom.15:18
12. Three I’s: Teaching should be followed immediately by inductive questions; What are the Insights? How are you going to obey (Implement)? With whom you will share (Impart)? Keep track to see that they are being done.
13.Teach, train, coach, tell stories and hold mock-up debates for as many as you can, until they can confidently and competently train others. There are different kinds of seeds and soils. Only good seed and soil will be fruitful.
14. There are ‘A’ level National Coaches who train Christian leaders. There are ‘B’ level Regional Saints who train grassroots ‘C‘ level Witnesses, not to be despised, as they advance the kingdom and suffer persecution for it. Finally Holy Spirit is the ultimate teacher, “who will guide you into all truth.” John 14:26; 16:13; Acts 1:8
15. Today training in Spirit-led obedience, in small groups, is producing skilled, confident and reproductive “fishers of men” who are “turning the world upside down.”
