CLEBRATE CHRISTMAS OR NOT
We all know
that Jesus was not born on Christmas. Most know
that King Constantine changed the hedonistic feast of drinking, debauchery and
giving gifts into Christmas. Even today our focus is on cakes, cookies, wine
and biryani and giving of gifts to those who already things in abundance while
forgetting the least of this world who have nothing.
We also
celebrate Good Friday and Easter which like the Christmas, do not exist in the
Bible. Finally, our favorite Sunday Service also does not exist in the
Scriptures.
This does
not mean that Jesus was not born or died on the cross and resurrected. All
these took place, but the exact dates are not mentioned. But the Bible does
have these dates if looked carefully.
The
month of the Nisan (Aviv in Torah) usually falls in
March–April on the Gregorian calendar. Nisan which means the new
beginning, is the first month of the Hebrew Lunar calendar. So, when Jesus was
born, overnight the Calendar changed the world over from BC to AD. Secondly on
the 10 day of the Nisan God asked to take a lamb and keep it for 4 days for
observation to see if it has any defects. On the fourth day, i.e. on the
fourteen day it would be sacrificed, roasted, and then eaten with unleavened
bread, bitter herbs and wine.
Now a days
on the 10th day of Nisan we celebrate the Palm Sunday when Jesus
entered Jerusalem and rode on a humble donkey and examined by people and found
to the perfect lamb of God.
