Despite severe battering, the early Ekklesia capped a spectacular performance for 300 years without church buildings, clergy, musical instruments, weekly services, Christmas, Easter, Good Friday or regular tithing. Emperor Constantine of Rome, a hybrid Christian, who also venerated the sun god, introduced most of these extra-biblical traditions, giving birth to a completely illegitimate church. HOW DID WEEKLY WORSHIP START? After the first cathedral was built in Rome in 322, Sunday was declared a day of worship. People used to get drunk on Saturday night anyway, so everyone thought it was a good idea. Unfortunately, the six other days, when the believers used to meet in each other’s homes were lost.
