LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY

 SLIDE 1

The Lord's Prayer

Luk 11:1 One day in a place where Jesus had just finished praying, one of His disciples requested, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

Luk 11:2 So Jesus told them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.

Luk 11:3 Give us each day our daily bread.

Luk 11:4 And forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.’”

Luk 11:5 Then Jesus said to them, “Suppose one of you goes to his friend at midnight and says, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,

Luk 11:6 because a friend of mine has come to me on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him.’

Luk 11:7 And the one inside answers, ‘Do not bother me. My door is already shut and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up to give you anything.’

Luk 11:8  I tell you, even though he will not get up to provide for him because of his friendship, yet because of the man’s persistence, he will get up and give him as much as he needs.

Luk 11:9 So I tell you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

Luk 11:10 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

Luk 11:11 What father, if his son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead?

Luk 11:12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?

Luk 11:13 If you being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask”

SLIDE 2 (THE LORDS PRAYER Luke 11:1-13)

V.1: The disciples asked Jesus, “Teach us to pray.”

V.2: Jesus said, when you pray say, “Our Father.”

When we say “Father” – Instantly we have Father and children love relationship.

As His sons and daughters, we can ask Him whatever we like.

Equally as our loving father, he can say “No”, if it is not in His will.

1Jn 5:14: “And this is the confidence we have that: If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”

2 Peter 3:9: “His will is that none should perish but…”

1Tim. 2:4: “Come to know the truth and be saved.”

V.2: Thy Kingdom come.

Focus of the prayer is the “Kingdom of God.”

Math 4:17: “Jesus opened his ministry with, “Repent for the Kingdom of God is nigh”.

Luke 9:1-3: “Jesus asked his disciples to cast out demons, heal the sick and preach the Kingdom”.

Acts 1:3 –Post-resurrection, Jesus taught his disciples pertaining to the Kingdom of God for 40 days.

V. 4 - Entrance into the Kingdom is through repentance and forgiving others.

Gal. 5:22: Wherever we are, we are to bring Kingdom values of love, joy, peace, and justice etc.

V. 3 – Give us this day our daily bread.

We are to ask for our needs and not our greeds.

Luke 11:9: “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it shall be opened to you”.

Ask – What are we supposed to ask the Father?

Psalm 2:8: “Ask Me, and I will give you nations for your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession”.

We are to ask for both, the People and Places.

God is not only interested in saving of individual souls but also Nations.

SLIDE 5

Matt. 24:14: This gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all nations, and then the end will come.

Math.28:19: “The Great Commission - Go and make disciples of all nations, baptize all nations, teach obedience to all nations”.

Rev.7:9-10: All nations, tongues and tribes will stand before the Throne of God and worship Him.

V9. Seek and ye shall find. What shall we seek?

Luke 19:10: Lord Jesus came to seek and save that which was lost.

Lord Jesus did not say seek “lost people” but, “all that which was lost.”

In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve lost everything, their liberty, identity, dignity, health, wealth, and spirit.

 SLIDE 6

John 10:10 – Lord Jesus came not only to save souls but to give abundant life.

1Thess. 5:23: Hence our ministry must be holistic taking care of body, soul and spirit.

V9: Knock and it shall be opened unto you.

Rev. 3:20: “Jesus is knocking at your door and if you will open it, He will come in and eat supper with you.

However, He might not come as a handsome, bearded, fair looking man in a long gown.

Math.25:35 – 46 : But he may come as hungry, thirsty, homeless, stranger or a sick patient or as an ex-criminal or a needy itinerant evangelist who works as a migrant laborer in the harvest field.

Heb. 13:2: – Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some have done this, have entertained angels without realizing it!

 SLIDE 7

V.11: If you being evil know how to give good things to your children, then why will your Heavenly Father not give you the Holy Spirit?

Matt. 3:11: Lord Jesus baptizes you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Acts 2:39: And you shall receive the gift of the Holy spirit for your own transformation and that of your family and through them others.

Acts 4:29: Holy Spirit gives us boldness to preach the gospel in the presence of opposition.

Rom. 15:19,20: Holy spirit gives us the passion to preach the Gospel where Christ is not named.

 SLIDE 8 – The End

Rev. 11:15 - If we pray and act as taught by our Lord Jesus then the kingdoms of this world will become the Kingdom of our Lord and His Christ.

Rev. 5:9,10 - And we shall reign with Him on earth forever. Amen and again Amen.
