DO NOT INVENT A VISION, DISCOVER IT The church suffers from severe amnesia when it comes to fulfilling her mission to complete the task of the Great Commission. Delinquent churches think that the people out there need to “come” to be churched. But, Yeshua commanded His Ekklesia to “go” and make disciples of all nations and send them to the ends of the earth as witnesses. Yeshua called us to follow Him and become “fishers of men.” Going and making disciples must supersede all the other activities of the Church. Though the demand for disciples is limitless, the evangelization of the world is bottlenecked because of severe shortfall of disciple multipliers. Tragically, this is not due to lack of resources but because the church is sitting on a colossal gold mine of untapped resources decaying in the pews. THE NEW TESTAMENT EKKLESIA IS THE ORIGINAL MODEL In NT times, no one “went to church” because they were the Ekklesia. They met almost daily in the simplicity, flexibility, and intimacy of homes. A close network of Ekklesias in the region provided food, fellowship and apostolic teaching. The temple, the priests, the Sabbath, and the religious rituals of Jewish and Gentile faiths were gone. Even in the face of persecution, the Ekklesia grew and multiplied exponentially. Today, there is an urgent need for shackled Christians to break out of the confines of the traditional church boundaries to fulfill her apostolic agenda. VISITOR FROM THE JERUSALEM EKKLESIA Over the centuries, temples, the priests, and Sabbaths have crept back in. A first century Christian would have difficulty in recognizing the ornate buildings, the weekly church service, the sermon, the loud music, institutionalization and tithing to sustain the abovementioned unbiblical structures, as a church. THE MANDATE, THE MISSION AND THE METHOD Yeshua trained twelve disciples and sent them 2x2 ( Mark 6:7 ). They went and made seventy disciples. He then sent them 2x2 with an Ekklesia planting strategy ( Luke 10:1-9 ). They planted Ekklesias in the ‘houses of peace’. He then empowered 120 ‘persons of peace’ with Holy Spirit and they baptized 3000 people. They went and multiplied disciples that starting from Jerusalem, reached the ends of the earth. The Lord has given His Ekklesia the mandate to go and make disciples of all nations, tongues and tribes ( Matt. 28:18-20 ). Thus, the Ekklesia’s focus must be on finding and saving the lost until panta ta ethne is discipled. The Great Commission is the core of the core, the driving agenda, the primal mission and the mandate, and the raison d’être or the reason for the existence of the Ekklesia.
